I uploaded this video to YouTube to see if anyone can help me with my chickens problem. She only seems to get worse after weeks of respiratory illness which maybe was brought on by a round worm infestation. I know because I saw them. I’ll include a photo of the first of three I found.

I have been treating with safeguard and baytril and using VetRx, giving her hard boiled quail eggs with the meds injected into them. Nikkity the sick chicken
Any help would be appreciated.

Oh also she is 2 years old. Only previous health problem prolapsed vent. Her butt sort of has thick mostly white doody on it. I cut her butt feathers but that didn’t help. I’m tortured listening to her suffer

What respiratory symptoms has she had? Have there been sneezing, watery, gunky, or bubbly eyes, nasal mucus, head shaking, wheezing, or a lot of swallowing happening? There are respiratory viruses, bacterial, or fungal diseases. Can you post a picture of her and her vent area? How much Baytril and SafeGuard dosage have you been giving? Is her crop emptying by morning?

Just an idea, the respiratory problem and the worms may have happened at the same time but the worms may not have caused the respiratory. She could have had upper respiratory for a while that weakened her immune system and invited opportunistic pathogens like the worms.

Imo I'd try lowering her body pH to fight off pathogens, like with apple cider vinegar; probiotics (to restore gut Flora), and from what I've seen here most respiratory infections respond to tetracycline (doxycycline).

The video sounds like she is having labored breathing and rales/crackles from mucus. How does her crop feel—empty or full, firm, doughy, or puffy? It is hot there? Some worms can affect the breathing, so if using SafeGuard, I would give 1/4 ml (0.25 ml) per pound of weight give it for 5 consecutive days.

Crop full of seeds I can feel. I guess it feels like a hackey sack if you lived as a teen in the 90’s.
Very very hot here this last week or so. Like 90 degrees. Been bringing her in at night.
Have been giving diluted safeguard and baytril to the first line on a 3ml syringe I think? Seems to do nothing though.
The worst part is the sneeze or shout she does when she’s asleep and starts struggling to breathe. All night long.

Are you using Baytril 10% liquid? Dosage of that strength is 0.1 ml for every Kg or 2.2 pounds of weight twice a day for 5 days.
Yes 10%
I inject ut into a hard boiled quail egg. I think she gets most of it but I’m curious as to how most ppl administer their meds to the chickens?

This could be the case for sure. I have been giving apple cider vinegar in the water when not doing the safeguard. Now as of today another chicken is sick. One of the barred rocks has been sitting in the cat bed in my garage where they started laying eggs last month and won’t get up not even to go to eat or at sundown. This is getting very bad and I’m all alone trying to figure this out. Thanks for helping
