Bridge Creek, OK
Hi All,

I've been checking out the information on BYC for over a year now but only recently created my account. We recently retired and relocated to Oklahoma from Southern California. The retirement dollar goes a lot further here than it does in San Diego plus most of my family live in Southwestern Oklahoma. We ended up just outside of OKC, technically we're rural Grady County between Tuttle and Bridge Creek so no city ordinances to deal with

. I grew up with chickens but it's been over 20 years since I've had any around so I figured I'd better catch up on the new chicken tech (I'm guessing/hoping the birds themselves have changed very little.)

As of now we haven't acquired any chickens. I'm determined to get everything prepared before any birds actually arrive. My plans are to have 12-15 hens so I'm looking at coop/run plans that will hold 20-30 (I'm well aware of how chicken math works) with expansion available in the future.

That's the quick introduction. I have seen a few threads that I would comment on but don't like to post comments if there isn't anywhere that other posters can see who I am. I'll be sure to update when the coop is ready and when the girls (i'm not opposed to roosters but I'm starting off slowly and for egg production) arrive.

Hi, Jerry, welcome to BYC, Go to the Learning Center at the top of the page, search the forums and question away. Far better to be prepared prior to starting.

Thanks for the welcome messages. There's a lot of information in here, I'm having to regulate my computer time or none of the chores are going to get done. the goal is chicks early spring of next year. I think there are bets being placed as to if I'll make it that long.
