I figured I stumble upon this site almost every day in my searches I might as well quit being a creep ;)

Anyway, my name is Katherine and I breed chickens on a small scale and currently have 4 projects going:

one coop we are breeding for meat and eggs * mostly meat but right now just mostly getting eggs lol*

Bantams I breed mostly to feed my raw fed dog, they make good sales too, surprisingly popular, also i have one who always goes broody, so thats useful too ;)

Cochins for broodyness, but currently only have a young 3 month old pullet and her 2 future lovers, i love how teddy bear like they are, very huggable!

And lastly the most brain stretching project and the one that has my full interest are my easter eggers, I love these birds, it started with one hen that we got with a group of roosters we were going to slaughter, i felt sure i wanted to keep her and in return shes become so sweet and personable, and her offspring have proved to carry that in them, right now he little son is my favorite pet *and i have a horse so yeah... lol* but anyway my goal for right now to get a collection of hens and roosters to go into winter with so next year I can start really breeding for egg color, so far the ingredients in my pot are green layers, blue layers, and with the little ones ive been hatching out since march next year ill be crossing chicks that hatched out of well, blue and green to start lol, but also im working with spotted eggs, ive collected some eggs from our other birds that are various shades of brown that have loads of speckles, and we will soon be ordering a number of cornish birds and french copper marans... im so excited for next year i can hardly stand it lol... I do all selective breeding, i hand breed my birds for now *rooster lives alone, and i toss hens to be bred right then and there, i know then who the parents of the offspring are... I freshen off the hens by keeping no roosters with them, but once summer comes and i get them a coop they will have their rooster back *he a fabulous rooster, very attentive and i swear the bugger can count his hens, i have a respect for him that will keep him forever off our chopping block, even if im no longer breeding him*

but anyway lol, i guess i came here looking for atm genetic advice, i found a book id like to order, but 100 bucks for a gentic book that really is just to satisfy my hungry curiosity seems costly....
