Longevity of HW cloth apron in rusty Midwest?

I've pulled galvanized fence wire out of the ground that had been there 40 years or more, and much of it was still strong, so I'd say good hardware cloth would last at least 20 years

The reason the midwest is rusty (cars and such) is road salt, not rain. I would think the hardware cloth should last a long time.

I bought 19 gauge and it seems lame. May use welded heavier wire instead or put in the effort to do something permanent like rock / concrete. Thanks.

The buried portion bottom section of my Chicken Run is plastic coated fencing. That is why I used it, my first fencing rusted out.
