I'm so thrilled!

My coop's too small to house all my birds (and the flocks need to be segrated for age and roos), I've been keeping the youngsters in small condos in the garage and hauling them out every day to a portable pen - obviously that's not feasible anymore, way too much work and inadequate facilities... and I've no way to add space to my existing coop so I had to either find something pre-built or build something myself.

Since we're moving I was hoping to find something we could bring along with us since we'd be investing in it anyways.

I found this on the local ads for $200!

It's about 6 feet wide by 8.5 feet long, with 3 functional windows and a door, it's on skids with the floor that opens up in a corner for easy sweeping (it's for ice fishing actually).

Ventilation for the summer should be adequate with the windows, I will proof it with hardware cloth for predators and build a pop door on the side where the outside run will be. Inside I'll build nesting boxes and roosts and then it just needs a coat of paint and voilà!

The guy is delivering it to me for an extra $50 as I have no way of transporting it, but still it's a good deal since it would cost me that much in materials in the first place.

OMG! That is too neat! Not something we would see around here but so neat that you found it where you can put it to good use.

I know! I'm so thrilled...

We're just fixing a delivery date for this week and then hopefully by next weekend the young ones will have a brand-new space to themselves!

(Just need to finish some window trims and paint... cosmetic stuff)

Remember the brown shack in the first post? Here it is now, painted "duckling yellow"!

DH contemplating the huge run we built in one afternoon... He took out his back pounding those stakes in, poor sweetie!

The inside with nesting boxes, roosts, plenty of sun and fresh air... Ah!

I'm got no carpentry skills and very few tools so it may not look like much but I'm very proud of my work.

I had to redo the entire floor, re-frame the door as the shed's structure tilted and broke in one corner during transport, cut out a pop door with no tools, run electricity to the shed, and a million other things! Ah, what we do for the love of our birds...

Awesome! Love seeing the old bobhouses converted like that, we did the same thing here, turned a 4x8 into an 8x8.
