I needed a French Black Copper Maran rooster as I breed hens locally. I ordered my rooster a few months ago and look what "he" just laid this morning How often does someone get to be disappointed their chicken is a hen and not a rooster lol.

Sorry about that. But hatcheries will tell you that vent sexing is only about 80 to 90% accurate. I guess Marans are not sex-linked so you can't sex-ID them at hatch? It's a pretty egg anyway. Especially coming from (pardon me) a rooster!

Yes, in my short time here I've seen at least one instance where someone was sure they had a pullet when it was obviously a cockerel, and people asked them to report back when they got their first egg.

Don't think the OP was that person .

I've seen plenty that thought they had a pullet that was a cockerel. Even people that thought they had a crowing hen that was a rooster but never someone that purchased a male and got a female instead.

I think it's obligatory that if you REALLY want hens, you only get roosters
The opposite would have to also be true.

I think you're right. I haven't cracked it open yet. It might be!
