Last weekend we went to the lake to do a little fishing with the family. There are a few mallards that like this lake. I think we have counted 7 total. It is a small lake and you are not aloud to swim or put any type of boat on the water so it is basicaly just a little fishing lake. We watched the ducks fly in and then heard a scuffle next to us where they landed. A female came flying out of the reeds and started attacking one of the males. She went crazy then flew/swam back next to us. The group of ducks that flew in started to swim across the lake. A few minutes later my hubby heard that distinctive chirping of a baby duck. We stood up and there came momma and two ducklings right behind her.
I bet the rest of her clutch has gotten eaten or dround from the other ducks. These two were so small and cute and they could book it across the lake just as quick as momma could.
Here is what they popped out of and we never knew they were there.
I was walking along the side of the lake following her taking pictures.
There is a million baby crawdads in the spot they were at. Mom was teaching them to eat the crawdads.
