I was cleaning out the chicken coop today and I heard a familiar "peep" coming from our broody Silkie hen. We have never hatched out chicks from under broody hens and so this is our first! What an exciting moment to see this cutie peeping out from under her mom - or her surrogate mom!

Hatching out eggs in an incubator is rewarding - but there is nothing so adorable or heartwarming as seeing a chick peep out from under a broody hen!

Awww! I've never hatched in an incubator but I had my first chick hatch under a broody a few weeks ago and it was just as wonderful as you described it.

yup just saw it and isnt that cute...looks like the one have in my basement except mine is black.
