Looked Good Before..... Ill/Dead Hen

Hey,
I have(now had) a lovely hen named Snow. She was friendly and enthusiastic about lots of things like coming out of the coop and treats like grape leaves. She was one of our more social hens, and she let us pick her up more easily. This last weekend, she seemed to be having trouble laying eggs, or that's at least what we thought it was. However, today we noticed her lying on the ground this morning. Later, when we noticed she was still there, we went out and checked and realized she was DEAD.

This was quite a surprise, and very sad. Snow was very popular, as I would often use her when people came over to show how to hold a chicken because she would remain calm and not try to get away very much.

Snow was a little over a year old. We got four chickens May last year as chicks. There is Pee, Ostrich, and You as the ones we still have. Pee and Ostrich are Plymouth Rock and I forgot Snow's breed and Pee's breed.

The days before death, Snow appeared to be having trouble laying her egg. She would go in to do what looked like lay and then come out and bak like she was having trouble. We also think she may have been sneezing a little more than usual. A few days after her death, we checked the other three for lice and mites, and found nothing.

Anyways, I have not had a Backyard Chickens account for very long, but I used the website for a resource as a friend introduced us to Backyard Chickens before we got chickens.

Sorry about Snow. Don't know what caused her death, but I do know that it's part of the nature of birds to try to hide any signs of illness or injury. Once you notice a problem, it is often more advanced than you would expect. Sometimes there's just not much you can do.

Sorry for your loss.
However we can't give your any suggestion before we know more symptoms.
I'm not expert or vet, just try to help. Good luck!
