Title has the question. We're looking at a house on 17 acres in zone 11 of Palmyra Maine, & need help finding as much information as possible. Also need to know if roosters are allowed.
Thanks in advance.

I don't know if they have an ordinance or not, but I doubt they do. We do have a Right To Farm bill and we're also looking to pass another bill to protect our right to have chickens and that's all State wide. As far as that town is concerned, it's all farm country out through there, so I don't think you have anything to worry about unless you're in a HOA in in the village area and I still wouldn't think you'd have anything to worry about.

I know the current bill has a cap at 36 chickens, & are trying to get rid of the cap which is nice since I've got 60 chickens, 1 Turkey plus 12 chicks.

There's another house in Franklin we're looking at, but can't find a good zoning information. Just says per town, & my search came up empty.

This isn't the most legal advice but how relaxed are the neighbors? Do many have chickens? Are you going to be in the city limits or county (your address can be in the city but have your land run by the county, this is what we have)? Are the cops/sheriffs strict? I ask all of this because I have over the limit of chickens plus have roosters along with having neighbors who have animals and birds that aren't in compliance with local animal regulations. However, since no one cares and the sheriffs don't come by often, everyone gets away with it. If the area is flexible then you should be fine. I would imagine with 17 acres you should be perfectly ok given that it is also an agricultural zoning area.

If all else fails, call their town office. They might have the answers you're looking for.

Currently I'm living at my Aunts on 67 acres in the middle of nowhere in Bingham Maine on farmland with neighbors that don't mind, & also have their own acreage.

Yeah.
