I am a new chicken owner in Portland Oregon. One of my 4 month old hens has developed a bump on her head. I am worried about her and want to find someone to examine her. Any suggestions for a good chicken vet?

I don't know what part of Portland you're in. I'm in Beaverton. I've seen two different vets that treat chickens. One is in Lake Oswego, it's the Avian medical center. They only see birds. Their # is 503 635 5672.

I've also been to Rock Creek Vet(rinary hospital, I think) 503 645 4458. This one is also an emergency office that stays open till midnight. Their basic fee to see a vet was a bit cheaper than the first one, and I liked it really well. They're on 185th between walker and highway 26. I don't know of any in SE but if you're out that way they might know of a vet that is. Good luck!!

ETA The Lake Oswego vet is on vacation for a couple of weeks right now.

Thanks! We live close in in NE and would love to find something closer... How much are Vets for chickens?

When we thought our hen was eggbound we looked, and looked and looked for a vet that would see her. We ended up in Newberg (though that is probably too far for you). I'd suggest checking with the vets on the fringes of the farming community . . .I think they are more likely to treat chickens. I tried that Lake Oswego Avian Vet but the only one that could see chickens was also on vacation then. Good luck!
