Hi, I have a 2 month old rooster named Bette Davis. And I absolutely can't part with him, but I live in a neighborhood that doesn't allow roosters.

I heard there's a decrowing surgery and have called around to see if any vets in Utah do this. I've called 5 clinics without any luck. Anyone know who could help in Utah? Thanks!

Have you spoken to your neighbours? Getting some goodwill from them will help.

Also you can put him in a dark box at night and just let him out during the day to mitigate the early morning noise. If your neighbours are happy with that, maybe they won't report you.

But have a plan B if you can't get surgery, or if you can't talk round the neighbours.

Did you find a vet that would do this in UT? We are in the same boat and are hoping to still be able to keep our rooster.

You may find that at six months he’s not the same bird. He is now at two months. Roos often change drastically as they grow out so before I would spend the money on decrowing him, you may want to grow him out and see if his temperament is what you think it will be down the road. Most Roos who are hand raised don’t remain the sweet boys we hatch as they lack respect for us humans and become aggressive with no boundaries. Very few actually stay nice and respectful.
