Hi Everyone,
I am looking for a wife for this guy

Question: Is it ok to mix colors or best to breed true? I was wondering what colors would go best with him? I have him in a dog kennel til his pen is finished.

To answer the secondary question here, it is fine to 'mix colors' but you should be informed about what that means for your birds. All the colors are just 1 breed of peafowl (the india blue) with various color and pattern mutations. For example, yours looks like it has the black shoulder (ie, solid wing) pattern and has the natural blue color. If you were to breed him to a normal pattern hen (ie, just an india blue hen with no mutation), you would get kids that look like normal india blues but they will carry the blackshoulder gene. The same goes for colors, except that the only way you'd get different color babies would be through 2 gens of breeding.

If you want to know more about how the colors and patterns interact, here is a good place to start: Peafowl 201: Further Genetics- Colors, Patterns, and More

I purchased my pair from Amy. She was great to deal with. However, when I sent her an e-mail interested in another bird I didn't hear anything back. Not sure if she was just busy and my e-mail got pushed aside, or if something came up.

Either way give her a shot. I'll be calling/e-mailing her in the spring to see what she has for sale. She does have her cell number listed on the website--you may want to try that if she doesn't reply to the e-mail.
