I have 2 hens that insist on laying there eggs while on the purch.... which at first was an issue as they would fall and break. so then I put hay and wood shaving there to caught the fall. but now they are still laying there (only 2 of then hens) and I find them each morning but now they also fall on the poop..... any advise to help them figure out that they have boxes to go into?
thanks

Are they new layers? They should eventually stop as it takes about 26 hours to produce and egg so each egg generally is laid later in the day than the last if they are daily layers.

Generally older hens learn to hold the egg until it is light enough to get to a nest. Young layers will often just push them out on the roost. I have never had it continue long term.

It might help to catch them about to lay (based on squawking) and physically put them in a nest box. I had to do that with one of my hens early on and she stayed in the box to lay her egg. After that she always used the nest box. Of course, the key is to be able to catch them about to lay! Easier said than done!

I thought so too but ive had them now since june and there is only 2 of them that continue to do this.
How many birds in how big a coop with how many nests???
Pics would be best.
Also how old are all the birds and the birds laying off roost??
