I'm disappointed in the look of my Ideal silkies. Small crest and none were bearded. I have one white silkie from Privett that is perfect in my eye. I just did not like the condition they were in when I bought them. They were a lot of extra work. My polish from ideal looked great but were lost in a predator attack so I don't know how they would have turned out. I don't care if my birds aren't SQ, but do want specific qualities. The silkies I want to have beards and a decent crest. For polish I'm looking for black white crested. I prefer bearded but not a deal breaker. I understand hatcheries have bearded and non bearded. I just want better odds than what ideal offers. I found that Murray McMurray has sexed polish which sounds too good to be true. The description says nothing about beards. The white silkies they use for their description is of non bearded and very unattractive to me. The other colors in the catalog are bearded. So my question is, who has bought hatchery silkies and polish? Are you satisfied? Got pics? Thanks

I don't believe hatcheries(any of them) have decent silkies, polish I don't know about. But I would recommend you go to a breeder instead. You don't have to buy show quality but, you could tell them what you expect, crests, beards, etc.

Secondly getting silkies under 4 mos of age, are very difficult to sex. If you buy young birds NO ONE should be able to sex them accurately(unless dna tests were run). If they say they can - get away fast.

Breeders usually have birds that don't quite meet the SOP for show or breeding prospects , that may meet your criterion for silkies.

I live in north east Texas in the middle of nowhere. I have been unable to find anyone local. I do have an incubator. I'm not sure if I can go over budget for shipped eggs. That's a lot of money for no guarantee of at least a couple of chicks.
