We are half way through our 2nd batch of meat birds and I'm looking to see if anyone knows of an exact feeding schedule. For example:
how many lbs of feed each day per each week (wk 4: 5lb feeds, 1x a day)
Thanks for your help!

I fill their little piggy trough with enough feed in the early morning to last until about 6 in the evening, the pull it for the night. If there happens to be some left, I pull it anyway. That gives me the 12 on 12 off feed schedule recommended by others here to control their growth and diminish flip.

I have no idea how much feed that is.

But then, I'm just learning.

26 CXers and 2 packing peanuts are eating 9 lbs of food a day. They have been cleaning their trough by night fall, I fill it at 6:30am. they have been eating this amount for 3 days. It was 8 lbs prior to that.
I try to check on them by 5pm, if its empty. The next day I'll add a 1/2lb of feed to the total.
Hope this helps.

This is per 25 birds
Up to 5 days old- keep feed with them 24 hours
Week 1- 2lbs per day
Week 2- 2lbs per day
Week 3- 31/3lb per day
Week 4- 41/3lbs per day
Week 5- 5lbs per day
Week 6- 51/3lbs per day
Week 7- 51/3lbs per day
Week 8- 5lbs per day
Week 9- 4/13 lbs per day

This works out to a little over 250lbs of feed. They also get plenty of grass and bugs out on the pasture.Works for me, I get birds that average 6lbs dressed. Hope this helps.

OH MY! this is wonderful! thank you SOOO MUCH! Do you raise Cornish Rocks? Just wondering because your feeding schedule going through 9 weeks and I thought C.R. need/should be butchered around 7 weeks? Thank you again!

I have 15 Cornish X pullets that I got Wed 4/11. Bought them from Sunnyside Hatchery in Wisconsin. Starting at 5 days old I feed 2 hours in the morning (6-8AM) and then again from 1 to 8 PM. They look fantastic and are very active. I have a couple of bricks in the coop for them to climb on. The feed and water are on opposite ends. Haven't lost any yet (knock on wood). In the morning "no feed" gap I have been giving them lettuce and carrot slivers. I also put vitamins/electrolytes in their water. My plan is to put them out in a chicken tractor in about 2 weeks when they are comfortable with the Wisconsin weather. I'll move it every morning just enough to give them clean poop-free grass.

I know these birds are a challenge because I raised them for the first time last year. Two batches. One pullets and one cockerels (never again-they grow too fast) . After just having layers, the whole thing was just bad.

I am determined to give them 8-10 weeks of a good life that I am also comfortable with. If you would like to see pics of my happy chicks just say so. I'm sure my daughter will download for me (Right Brenda?). And I made a deal with my brother. I raise them - he butchers. We share the expense. I am happy with that.

Thats quite a bit off of what I am seeing with my birds. Are they CX? Able to free range?
Here is the Welp chart just for giggles!

I tried that 12 on and 12 off thing, but when two birds ended up with broken wings in the stampede because I couldn't get the feed in there fast enough, I said the heck with this. They don't eat when it is dark in their pen and that's about 9 hrs. So why bother. They may eat a little more but my birds weigh around 9-10 lbs at 8 wks. They also get vitamins and electrolytes in their water. :drool

We do raise X Rocks. Sometimes I let the hens go a little longer to get a little bigger. They do free range in a tractor so maybe that's why my numbers could be off a little. It works for us. Just expirement with the feed and see what produces best for you.
