I bought a new gravity feeder for my girls and a drake that stays with them, but I’m not sure it holds enough feed to last a few days. It lasts for maybe a day at the most before I have to add more. My boys that live on the opposite side of the divider have a feeder that I built that holds enough feed to last a day, depending on how much I put. I was thinking about buying a gravity feeder that has a timer or whatever on it, but I don’t think that that would work. I’m afraid that if I have to go somewhere for a few days (like a funeral or something), they will run out of food and water. Obviously, they don’t need food and water at night. They only have enough water to last then during the day, but I take it out when it’s their bed time. How could I possibly keep them fed and watered if I have to go somewhere? There’s no one to come over to feed and water them. I don’t feel comfortable using metal feeders or waterers bc I don’t want the ducks to get cut or something. There’s also the problem of keeping the feed from getting all over the ground. Their water is in a dish pan. 1 dish pan for the boys and the other for the girls and the 1 drake. I don’t wanna spend a costly amount of money on feeders and waterers. I have a huge feeder that I bought from walmart, but I’ve yet to use it bc I don’t really have anywhere to hang it up in the coop and it’s probably better off being used for deer corn or something and I’m not sure how much food it holds. What are my options? I’m willing to buy from amazon. I have 9 ducks.

We use 5 gallon buckets for both water and food. For food they have three holes cut and a pvc 90 siliconed in so it’s a gravity feeder. For water we use poultry cups in the 5 gallon bucket, we have 2 of these in the run. Making these like we did wouldnt’t cost very much, the poultry cups were the biggest expense at 2 for $6 I believe. We only have 4 ducks right now but we’ve had as many as 11 at once and it would still last them at least a few days (they also free range and forage). I wish I had some pictures on my phone, I can get some tomorrow if you’d like?

Here’s a picture of the homemade waterer and feeder. I love them both! The feeder I would guess holds 1/3 of a 50lbs bag. And the waterer is great, but in the winter the cups will freeze even with a deicer in the bucket so I either switch out buckets every morning or they have a bucket I fill up near the house. I’ll mention they do have a pool outside of the run so no one worries about their nares.

Do you close off the feeder at night? Or how do you keep from attracting rats and other animals with open food?

Ingenious! I saw those spickics at Tractor Supply. Now my husband knows what they go on. Thank you. P,S, That's one good looking thin German Shepard.

You’re welcome!

Thank you! He is good lookin but he’s a pain in the hiney 🤣. He’s been thin his whole life, he’s a parvo survivor and had issues with weight ever since.
Im sorry about that. But he is beautiful! I dont have duck but i do have chickens. I use a big 6 inch pipe that goes down to a 1 inch pipe then has watering cups on the way bottom of the 1 inch pipe.
