Hi we live in ohio we have one male and one female golden pheasant. She has laid 15 eggs but she is not sitting on them.
My questions...
They are defiantly mating because she looks horrible poor girls tail feathers are very short and the rest of her feathers are very ruffled. She seems to try to avoid him.
I would like to add three or four hens but I can not find any mature female hens. Can anyone suggest a breeder around dayton, ohio?
Thanks

I don't know of any breeders in Ohio, but while you are looking for more females, maybe you could offer the female you have more hiding places to get away from her overly amorous mate. Either that or divide their pen. He only has to be with her once in 5 days for the eggs to have a good chance of being fertilized. If you took him out every other day or so it would give the poor thing a break.

Glad to see you care.about your birds' wellbeing. :D

op, go to softbills.com and look at birds for sale, if you don't see any put a free ad in the wanted section, I did and got 4 hens from one guy and 3 from another, I have 5 hens on each rooster...Roost

and thats how people start breeding not pure kinds of birds...they think they are pure bc they were told but if your new..you go by what information you have found and by peoples word

Yes that is how un-pure birds keep getting bred but it is up to whom ever to do research on that breeder and make sure they have a good track record. Also if you think you have any bird that is mixed you should always take them out of any breeding situation.
