Looking for some eggs to hatch w/2nd graders in COlorado?

I'm sure you could find someone here on BYC that would ship you some for the cost of shipping - you wouldn't be interested in any duck eggs, would you? I have a dozen down in the basement that haven't sold!

Otherwise, find a farmer with flock of chickens and a rooster and ask for some eggs!

My incubator can hold 20 eggs... last year we ended up with 10 chicks from the 20 eggs.. so if I could get 20 that would be great!!
The farmer we got them from last year doesn't have any this year...
I can order online, just not sure how successful that is... but am open to any and all suggestions
Thanks

If you order online and have eggs shipped to you, a typical hatch rate is around 50% - that's considered "good" for shipped eggs. But, if the USPS x-rays the box, it could fry the eggs and you may end up with none (and I can't imagine breaking a class of 2nd graders hearts like that!)

I would try going to the 'Where am I, Where are You?" forum here on BYC and finding the Colorado thread - if you post there, you may be able to find someone within driving distance of you who's willing to give you some eggs. Here's a link directly to the Colorado thread:

Edited to add: I used to live in Aurora, and we would vacation in Vail a few times every year!

I am also a 2nd grade teacher! We are on Day 24 hatching Call and Cayuga ducklings. I can send you the email from where I bought mine from if you would like. My hatch day is Monday so I can let you know how it goes!!

I have some mille fleur cochin and silkie eggs, you may have for the kids. I can probably have 10 by early next week. We're close to you (Golden) so shipping should be less damaging. I will have them Sunday and can ship Monday, unless someone is in this area. I am happy to meet them.-_Shylee

I'd be interested to hear how your Call duck eggs do - I've been considering trying to incubate some, but I've heard that they're difficult to hatch.

I will let you know how they do! We just took them out of the turner and put them on lock down for hatching!!!!

Danielle- I would really try to find some in Colorado because of the issue with shipping eggs to high elevation that were laid at lower elevation. Have you tried Craig's List in the farm section? That might be one of your best bets.
