Hello!

I am new to this site, new to chickens(don't have them yet), and new to uploading photos onto a forum...hence 2 pics of the same thing:-)

I am looking for advice on how to best convert a metal building ( an electrical house from the railroad) into a coop. The pluses are that this building can be wired, so I will have lights and also a small thermostat -controlled ventilation fan in the center of the roof. It already has brackets with shelves(adjustable heights). It is 6' x 6' x~7.5' with 2 doors- a door on the East side, and one on the West side. The downsides are that there are no windows, and I need to do something about the floor (rusting, with some openings). I think I may opt for deep litter method...so is linoleum the way to go? The foundation of the run will consist of chain link dog kennel panels, incorporating a garage wall on one side. I realize I will need to tweak it with hardware cloth or some type of wire along the base to protect against predators (excuse the pallets and roller thingy in the view of the garage....all that will be relocated elsewhere later today.). I assume some type of mesh, wire, or roof on top of the run? I have been gathering info for months and am now overwhelmed with making a decision on my own! I plan on getting maybe 3-5 chickens, who will be strictly pets...if they produce eggs then fine, but if not, then they live their natural life span safely with me. I would love to reuse, recycle, and repurpose as much as possible for this project. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Joan

If you add 2x4s to the front on the shelf for a rim on the top two shelves you can cover them with sand and put roost over it and have your roosts and poop boards built.
On the last shelf you can build a few nesting boxes and put the waterer and feeder beside them on the space you have left.
