we are new to the chicken community. We have a couple brahmas, dominique and a couple we're not sure of .. We would love to purchase two more white leghorn hens. First question, are they easy to find this time in the year and secondly is it better just to buy chicks? Also when does everyone start using their lights in their chicken coups! We are very new to this process so any information is greatly appreciated We live in western ky.

I just ordered some chicks from Ideal Poultry, and had white leghorns in my cart. They are available. I ended up changing my mind, but only because I already have 2 leghorns and a few mixed leghorn pullets. I'll get more leghorns next time

Ideal has great prices and still has a very good selection of babies.

I don't use lights in my coop. My leghorns laid right on through the winter, but they do mostly free range, and were out early each morning..

I have light but not for egg stimulation purpose. Since I have electricity for water warmer, I plugged in a light for convinience. Usually, I ended up at work during daylight hours and having to care and clean in the dark during winter.

I just added two white leghorns to my order at Ideal. Ideal has a special line of white leghorn developed in the 60s, so I have learned. I increased my pullet numbers to hopefully avoid packing peanuts! I increased my easter egger number from 2 to 4 too. 13 babies to arrive in 2 weeks...
