In the Brooder
Here's what's up and I'm hoping you'll give me some pearls of wisdom to spare me the trial and error part of learning.
We have a cool, works great. But, there's no run so we were just letting them all out to free range during the day. They loved this. But unfortunately so do the Hawks and owls. So after too many missing hens, I was forced to keep them cooped up. Sad! We don't have a run for them but we do have this attempt at a moveable tractor that my husband made last year. It has some design flaws that were working on but I wonder if it's even worth it. Right now there are 5 hens in the tractor with one broody and 13 chicks (not all with the broody) back in the coop.
From the few past tractor threads I've read, it seems a lot of people take them out of the tractor and put them in at night. My thinking is that that would be a total pain. Do you more seasoned veterans have any advice? We could make a run eventually.
Here are some pictures of the tractor as is. There is regular chicken wire covering the openings and all the sides. The hog panels go over the chicken wire.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
