We have a broody hen, and space for 1-2 more hens. Do you have any female Easter Egger chicks available? We live in Boone, NC and can come pick her up this weekend, if available! Thanks

It is hard to safely give a broody a chick without her killing it. (She will usually know that it is not hers) Fertile eggs might be better...

I respectfully disagree. I'm a novice (owned chickens just over a year) and have successfully done it twice. Two different Broodies - one was easier than the other but I followed advice from this forum and no injuries.

I would suggest buying a chick from a feedstore store. And I would suggest buying more then one. Maybe 3.
It's not always safe to ship a single chick and chicks always do better with other chicks.
Go to a local feed store. Atwoods doesn't have a minimal number of chicks to purchase, so if you want to get one (again, I'd suggest about three) they are the way to go. If you get them from the pullets bin you have the best bet of getting a little girl.
Just make sure the chicks are new arrivals and not weeks old.
I'd also suggest putting the chick under her at night when she's relaxed and tired. Or do it right before dawn. That's what I did with some guinea chicks and my (surprisingly broody) leghorn.

I'm not saying it can't be done though.

Good luck!
