Have a hen who is no longer "broody" but still laying daily. She is starting to loose her feathers from her back but there are soft fluffy little feathers filling in. I don't have a rooster so that eliminates that problem. Dust weekly for mites, lice and any other little critters which might decide to live there. My hen had a rough time while being broody and I bought her some eggs which she did hatch but squished them all. As soon as there weren't any little ones, she went out of broody. The other 4 hens appear to be alright and healthy. Could this be a result of her broodyness and going out of it during the 100+ degree days which we have had? She appears healthy otherwise. Need someone smarter than me to figure out this. These are my first hens and I am a totally new to this and have only had my hens since April 2012. Learning through experience. Any help more than appreciated.
