Hello,

Please bear with me, as I have no idea where to post on this website.

I run at the LG Creek Trail often. A couple of days ago, shortly after starting my run, I came upon 4 gorgeous bantam hens and one handsome bantam rooster. I sat with them for a while, and they were on my lap and allowing me to hold them! I later found out that there were 3 more further up the trail along with the cardboard box that they were dumped in and a bag of hen scratch. I called the Campbell police department, who contacted Animal Control.

The rangers came out and caught the 3 at the upper end of the trail. I was thrilled to see them and thought that the situation would end well. Unfortunately, the rangers beat me back to the first 5, and by the time I got there, the rangers had screwed everything up. They had chased the chickens endlessly, slamming nets down on them and poking at them with the stick ends of their nets.

As I said, they were on my lap earlier. By the time I arrived, they wouldn't come anywhere near any of us. They managed to catch 2 (1 hen and the rooster), but 3 are still out there. I took the day off from work yesterday and showed up at the park at 5:30am. All 3 eventually came down from the trees (can't believe they were alive!). I spent the whole day trying to get them to come near me, and I eventually had all 3 eating out of my hand again, but they were much warier than the day before, so I couldn't pick them up. A second person would have really helped things! The terrain is rough because they're hanging out down a steep embankment by the creek, near a densely wooded part of the trail.

I don't know if they made it through another night, but if they did, is there anyone here who would be willing to help me catch them? I am NOT an expert by any means. I have no proper knowledge about chickens, and I definitely don't have the right equipment to catch them.

If I'm posting in the wrong place, can you please advise me about where to post? If you want to call me about the situation, you can reach me at (408) 429-5675.

Thank you so much!

Hello! I may be able to help you catch them, as I live in Campbell :) I may actually be able to raise the hens as well, but the roo, will probably have to be given to somebody else, but I'd love to help!

Hi again,

I didn't realize that there was a 2 message per day limit on private messages.

If you're still interested in helping with this situation, can you call or text me at the number in my original post?

Thank you so much, and best of luck tomorrow!
