Tonight I went out to check on my chickens and one of my black sexlinks is missing all the feathers on her butt. It looks like they were plucked out. I am new to chicken raising and would like to know what would cause this. I have 15 chickens altogether but no rooster thank goodness.
She is only one year old. Any help would be appreciated.

Is it right at the base of the tail? If so, do you have a roo?
A roo is very aggressive at times when it comes to mating and rips feathers out of the poor hen. To protect her, you could buy saddles, or try a new roo.

ETA: I obviously can't read. I'm sorry. Feather picking is usually due to protein deficiency or boredom. Try a head of cabbage for fun. And meats for protein...

no it is not a feather loss at the top of the tail. It is under the tail on her backside. The other chickens don't seem to be bothering her and she doesn't seem to be sick or acting funny. She is still eating a strutting her stuff. I appreciate all the advice I can get.
