Hi There,

My lovely 2-year-old girl was sick back in March. I took her to the vet and she pulled out an egg membrane that was stuck in her vent. She has been slowly getting better ever since and seems back to normal! Except.. she is losing feathers ever so slowly on her neck. It started probably over a month ago and she loses just a few a week. The feathers don't appear to be growing back.

There are only 2 other chickens in the coop and I have never seen them pecking her. They free range in my yard during the day and are in the smaller run and coop in the evening.

Does anyone have ideas about why she could be losing her neck feathers and what I could do about it? Thanks so much!

Could you post a picture? Have you checked her over for any sign of mites/lice, the easiest way is to grab her once she is once the perch, and with a strong flashlight check under her wings/neck and vent area?

She does have a few mites. I found some below her vent and also some eggs attached to her feathers at her vent. But there aren’t many. She has had mites on and off for a long time.

I’ve tried diatomaceous earth and they dust bathe ever day. Do you think it’s because of the mites that she’s losing feathers on her neck?
