Losing feathers

Is it normal for my 8 -9 week old chickens to be losing alot of feathers. Seems like there are quite a few feathers in the run and coop. It has been very windy so I dont know if that contributed?

It is normal. As they grow they go through a few juvenile molts.

Kind of disturbing to see a bunch of feathers laying around for first time chicken keepers.

Thank you, it really is!! I had seen a few here and there but yesterday there was what seemed like alot to me.

It can look like a horrible disaster or tragic pillow fight went on.
When my ducks got their bigger pool OMG! They swam then preened and there were sooooooo many downy feathers everywhere I thought for sure they would be naked.

It's a good question. Anything you don't understand is a good question. No need to worry when you don't have to.

If you think about it , it makes sense. You've seen how fast they grow. They outgrow their feathers and need to replace them. They are still growing, you will see it again.
