I have a single chicken who is losing downy and long feathers. A few here and there. She stopped laying eggs. She looks completely healthy. She is in the coop at night and out in the yard during the day. The lowest temp it’s been here is 32 at night. A very clean and insulated, ventilated coop. 2 box. The coop is sealed of small holes or seems.
is she sick? Molting? Or just acclimating?
her food is fresh and plentiful
I’m worried. Also, it looks like some feathers were broken/ snapped at her neck area.

How old are your birds, in months?
If over about 14 months old, and you live in the northern hemisphere, it's probably molting.
Broken feathers on a single chicken could be hard to diagnose.

More information and a photo could help. Different things are possible. Odds are that it is just the molt. Stopped laying and losing feathers, classic signs. Since you mentioned down to 32, I'll assume you are in the northern hemisphere, probably the northern US. Could those broken feathers be pin feathers?

As long as no one is getting hurt I'd leave her alone as long as she has access to food and drink unless there are signs something other than the molt is goin in.

Thank you so much for replying! I’m very new to using this site. Sorry I didn’t take a pic. I will have someone help me get one. I am sure she’s healthy and happy because her behavior and stature are normal. She’s my only chicken and is babied. I’m in Colorado. Fall is dropping temps at night.

My girl is 19 months old. I appreciate you reply. The neck feathers look broken off like she came out of the trees she likes and scraped / broke off her feathers. No other injury ie broken skin

Does she free range...or is she kept in coop and run?
