Lost 2 of my girls....

Well..it finally happened. I have been fortunate, but I knew the time would come when something would get to our girls. We lost an EE and SLW...whatever it was just ate the throat. One was in the run and the other was still in the coop. What could have done this? What should I do to prevent it from happening again?

I'm sorry you lost your chickens. Were they locked in your run? Is your run covered? Do you have gaps in your wire that are larger than 1/2"? Did they dig in anywhere?

1/2" hardware cloth will keep out weasels and keep raccoons from reaching through. Covering the top will keep out hawks, owls and climbing raccoons. Using an apron of attached wire all around the bottom will prevent digging.
