Lost 3 chickens in a month

Sorry for the delay in reply we went out of town for the holidays. I'm happy and sad to say that the problem is resolved..... It was hawks.

They have plenty of cover in the area I keep them and there's only a small area where the open sky is visible and the rest has plenty of bushes and low trees for them to hide under, plus the coop.

Turns out the hawk can get in there and grab them, but cannot fly out since the area where the sky is overhead is too small so they have to leave them there dead. Apparently they won't eat them right there, but just drag them around trying to get them out.

My mother in law saw them sitting on the house and circling one day, and then security footage has confirmed them attacking the open area of their pen.

Now I get to build a roof for that area. Thanks for everyone's input!

Sorry for your loss. Did the hawk get all of your birds or just one?
If it got them all then at least you can start over with a healthy flock.
Again sorry for the losses :hugs
