I am really upset I lost a new Black Ameraucana pullet who was beautiful and at least BQ if not SQ. I had noticed she was lethargic so I treated the birds with Tylan in their water. It must have been to late! I found her dead under the roost just now. I am really glad I quarentine my new birds! How should I treat her flock mates. She was lethargic and puffy. It has been wet and cold the last few days and they are in a chicken tractor could this have contributed to her death? The other birds look good but I am worried I really don't want to loose the remaining trio! How should I treat them. I forget the proper dose of Tylan in the water does anyone know? and I forget how much to individual administer to each bird. Is it 1/2cc? Well wish me luck I hope this isn't a sign of things to come!!!!

Oh, Henry, I'm so sorry! This is awful for you. Honestly, I am not an advocate of treating any birds for respiratory illness or an unknown illness. Yes, it's 1/2 cc, but you might want to wait since you plan to sell hatching eggs from these in the future. You need to see if it was just a weakness in one bird or if the others come down with something.

Ok thats what ill do honestly if they all start looking "puffy" I might cull them. Its hard to kill such beautiful animals but I will have to. The rest of these hard working girls don't deserve to get sick from some newbies who aren't even laying yet.

Thanks I think that now I have broken the rooster barrier if he doesn't make it the Incubator barrier shouldn't be hard to bust down.

I am really hopeing it was just the weather or something or she got really chilled cross your fingers.

I never realized how quickly they can go down after getting chilled. I gave a young healthy pullett to a 4-H'r the other day and it got picked on and shoved out of its new coop for a pretty cold night. It died late the next day after sitting around "puffy". Poor kid was heartbroken, but I couldn't think of anything to tell them other than warm her up and keep her hydrated.
It sounds like you think yours might have gotten chilled somehow?, Hopefully that's all it is.

I hope thats it I put a tarp over the coop and they really do look more comfortable already they aren't all struggling to be in the middle of the roost anymore. I guess I can just wait and hope.

I am SO sorry for your loss. . Hope the others are OK. This is sad news. . Even the best breeders occasionally loose one if that is any consolation. I am so excited for this new group of birds for you.
