I' hoping that someone can help. We are now losing chickens to something that isn't leaving a sign. Not even feathers. I was told by a neighbor that there has been a fox around and she beloved that's what took he chickens. I have not seen it as of yet. We did lose some to what I was told a mink. Now I'm not so sure. Any ideas?

Hard to tell what is getting your chickens from what you have told us. Could be any number of predators but your best bet to find out is to install a couple of game cameras and see what is showing up. Are you losing them while they free range or are you losing them from the pen at night?

From the pen during the day. I'm picking up a couple of trail cameras tomorrow. Hopefully, the last bird will make it. I've lost 7 so far.

The fence is 5 feet tall and open at the top. The pen and the coop are close to the house and the my dog. The more I search the more I'm thinking its a fox. I just find it amazing that it would come in the middle of the day and not leave any sign. Guess this weekend I will be sitting in my turkey blind waiting for what ever it is to show up.

Hi and :welcome from Ohio. So glad to have you aboard. Yes a fox will come and get them during the day as do hawks. Game cameras are a good idea. Hope you find the culprit. :thumbsup

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan :D

Even if you kill this predator (or predators), without securing your run you will continue to loose birds. There is Always another predator looking for a chicken dinner. Your dog will be no deterrent.
