Who would have thought hens could have so much personality that we'd look at them more as pets than livestock?

But I know it's the price I pay for giving her freedom in exchange for keeping my barn mostly vermin-free.
I started with 2 barn kittens but her brother was lost to the road at 6mos.

I'm dealing with a young Redtail hawk now - hopefully just passing through, but he/she has been staking out my chickens for about 2 weeks now.
I keep them in their fenced yard - roofed with deer netting - and only let them out when I'm there to oversee, but even then a hawk could swoop faster than I could act.
