I lost my post and cant find if anyone answered my question but here it is again. I bought two ducks, didnt know they were muscovy. As they grew I saw the differnce and that they werent pekins as I had thought.. I thought ok, they will be interesting anyway. I always go by the curled tail feather and as they became adults thought I had females. Turns out the big she was a he and the other one is female. To make a long story short I bought a white pekin to go with my girls before I knew and wound up with an extra male. Then found out muscovy cant breed with any other kind or you wont get fertile eggs. Either way I should have been getting eggs but not one so far and they are over a year old. I am wondering how old before they begin to lay. They eat very well and have a pond so happy ,too. Just hatched off 7 pekins and hope for females to go with my male. Only one is quacking all the time. I hope this is a good sign and the rest are females.

Do I read that you have two drakes and a female? They may be mating with her too much, and that will harm her and possibly prevent egg laying.

Separate her for several days and see how it goes.

I,m sorry I wasnt clear about everything. I bought a male pekin to go with what I thought was 2 females. They fought right off so I took my pekin out of the duckhouse and he has never been with them since. Then I did research on ducks and found pictures which told me what kind of ducks I had.
I have seen the two muscovy breed but not often anymore.

oh forgot to say the eggs I hatched off was give to me from a friend who raises pekins.

Oh, thanks. I am a little tired and not processing information so well right now!

Sometimes I read on the forum that a duck takes quite a while to start laying. Is she getting lots of calcium?

Actually a pekin and a muscovy will breed, eggs will be fertile.....just the offspring hatched will be infertile and won't be able to produce :) But they could be used as meat birds

She may just not be ready to lay yet.....or shes hiding eggs. My girl a little over a year just started laying. And my other muscovy girl started laying a month ago and now shes sitting on a nest

I think she is going by her looks and they always have food & water available plus free range. He is the biggest duck I have ever seen and people think he is a goose.

Yes you are right , I remember now thats the way it is. Its the offspring thats not fertile. I will put my Male Pekin with my new Pekin ducklings as soon as I can . He is with 8 week old chicks right now and does great with them. Hopefully he will have a companion of his own kind soon..

Muscovies are very seasonal layers and tend to only lay if they intend to rear young. I don't own scovies myself, but have worked with them and rarely do we get eggs from them unless they're looking to build a nest and we're looking to stop them from hatching more.

Thanks, I have never had them before but find them very unusual. He is quiet bossy over the other animals. He bites the goats butt, fights my turkey and pulls his tail feathers out, & our dogs . He fights the roosters here if I let them out which are blackgiants and silkies. But never agressive toward me.
