Lost Three RIR pullets last night

This morning I went out to feed my pullets. They are about three months old. I had six. Now I have three. Something tried to dig under the chain link kennel I have them in but I dont think thats how it got them. My smallest with the bad eye is missing and then two more. I put wire around the base of the kennel this morning and I have a ten by ten by six panel I put on top. Its a a4 x 6 x 8 I have them in now. Im very upset. I have a trap and plan on trying to catch whatever got them. Im thinking a raccoon. If its a coon, its dead. I always wanted a raccoon cap.<G>

P.S. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot. One of the pullets is missing some feathers on the underside of her neck. I guess Im gonna have to lock them up in my big kennel cab tonight. I had put a dog house out there for them last night to roost in but looks like I need to lock them up every night also.

im sorry for your loss

i found out the hard way that chain link fences are NOT racoon or any other preditor proof

aparently racoons can work as a team one to scare the birds and make them run around like crazzy getting to close to the fence and the others just reach in and grab them

they pull what ever part of the bird they can get through the fence and if their is smaller fencing around the bottom they will shimmy up the fence (holding the bird on the other side) untill it finds aplce to pull it thru , one of my baby duck was found partialy thru the chain link 2' up the fence where there was no wire mesh

As of tonight, I've got 6 various traps set. Coons killed 3 of my chickens and 1 goose. I'm ticked off. They are not like other predators that come every night. They seem to make their rounds and will basically tag your place as a good stop to add to their schedule.
Good luck on getting the little &%$#@^*. I plan to post pics of my hunt.

I caught a cat last night. One of my own. I knew it. Stupid cats. Will try again. Used tuna fish. Maybe sardines tonight.
