Like the title says, we just lost two to an attack in the night. Our ducks stay in a fenced area, half a foot deep with over six foot tall fence. One duck was clearly brutally murdered, which we thing is either an owl, based on the fact that it was there the following day, or a small predator that would have crawled in through a small hole. Her head was missing, but was otherwise intact, being left in a hard to reach place for an arial attack. What really has us stumped, however, is the male that died the same night. He was in a repurposed bath tube that wasn’t being used because it got plugged at about half water. We couldn’t find any wounds on inspection, but it could be that the muddy water hid the blood and the cold stopped the blood from making a mess. So basically, is it possible he died of a heart attack after seeing our female die? Or is it more likely we just didn’t find the wounds? Any theories are welcome.
