Lost two roos to heat... Is lying down a bad sign?

I have seen people place their tractor under one of those open sided tents like you see at many outdoor events. They fold up into one piece when done with them and place them in a nylon bag they are sold in. They adjust up and down into any level.

Last year at our fair they lost a lot of birds due to heat. They had 4' fans running 24 hours to vent the heat. My run is half open and half roofed. Mine lay under the roofing in the heat of the day. Other times I see them digging holes and laying in the cool dirt. 7 chickens, 7 holes. Looks kind of funny to look out and only see 1/2 a chicken. Good luck. John

That's a cool idea, Chickaroo! (no pun intended)

We tried the tarp, but when it would ripple in the wind they'd get freaked out.

Katy,

They were able to lie down in some shade, but for whatever reason did not.

I think we'll be adding a plywood roof soon. Once the kids get back to school and the hubby and I are gone to work more, we won't be able to run around like that. As it is, we run around 4 or 5 times a day to push them into deeper shade. Anyway, it's getting pretty poopy under the trees... and we like to go barefoot a lot
