So I have 4 pullets, 4-6 months old. I love them SO much, that I felt that the little coop w attached run I bought was too little for them. So I set out to build them a coop w a 4x4x8 attached run. After a month of construction (which I had no clue how hard it would be) it's all done. The girls will go into the run and coop. I haven't seen them in the nesting boxes or on the perches inside or outside of the coop. I just put them in it yesterday. Will they start using those eventually or did I build it wrong?

Post a picture of your coop to let us see what it looks like.

I'm sure it is fine though....unless you've got paint fumes or something that is turning them off.

Hens are funny creatures. ANY change throws them off. It will take time for them to get used to the new coop. How much time depends on your girls.

Usually within a week or two they will have settled into the new place.

Chickens are slow to accept change, they'll come around.

When we first got chicks they were shut in the coop for about a week while we finished the run. I thought they'd rush out the popdoor being so happy to be out in the run. I couldn't even bribe them with treats to get them out. It took a few days until they ventured out.
