I have an ADOR automatic door, love it! It doesn't let in much weather and I have painted exposed wood around it and then have vinyl on the floor. It's wet coming in the window and the double doors that I'm trying to correct. The entire structure is wood and leaving the solid doors open exposes both in & out sides of the doors. I have good mesh over all access points, so the only access is when the pop door is open during the day.

I had hoped that I could get louvered shutters and attach them to my frame, but can't find them so plan to make something myself. The coop floor is painted wood covered with vinyl but not all the way back since I got scrap vinyl and the coop was bigger than the piece I got. It is not glued down, so I can take it up for a good cleaning when I do the whole coop. The coop is oriented so the window and doors are looking toward the house, which means they are on the weather side and wind/rain goes right in. Poor planning on my part, I guess. The building is up on blocks and the chickens can hang out under it during inclement weather or get shade from the sun. i periodically rake out under it and then put a bunch of sand down under there.

If I start cutting it up to improve it, I will have to think about adding another door so that I can split my chicken yard in half just to use part of it and let the other part rest. I had pictures of my set up somewhere on here, but can't find them right now. Will have to look more.

Sometimes you can find used window awnings on Craigslist. Most of the ones I've seen have been metal.

Thanks, I found it. It's an 8 X 12 prefab building. The double doors are 6' high and 5' wide overall. I had thought to get shutters for the window and those wood closet doors and do whatever to make them fit. Open louvers would allow air flow.

A roof extention would be the best in my opinion ... it would/could protect both the window and doors ... even if only 4'-5' out ... shade too!

If you dont have a ladder, maybe you could borrow one ... or use the tailgate of a pickup ... or, If your not up to the job, it would be worth it to hire a handyman type person to put a couple of 4X4 posts up, and add some more roofing ...

Thanks, 123 Red, I'm up to the job. Don't like heights particularly, but have plenty of ladders and pickup and tractor with front end loader bucket to get up plenty high. I guess that's what I'll do, just didn't want more structures that I have to mow around. They can use more shade anyway, so I guess that's the choice. I think I even have leftover metal for the roof from the last job.
