I am fairly new to chickens and ducks, but it didn't take long for them to win me over and take my heart. I got most of them from a live food market, which was traumatizing, to say the least. We went to get one female Pekin, for our (what we thought was a male) Pekin that I raised from a week old. When I saw how they were treating the ducks and chickens, which everyone was buying for food, except us, I couldn't help myself, even when my fiance was like what are u doing? Ended up coming home with about 10 ducks and 7 chickens. 🤷🏼‍♀️🦆🦆🐓🐔 He wasn't too happy, but he fell in love just like I did. I had no idea what I was even buying, I was literally like that one, that one, that one....when we got home, one little tiny duck was fighting everybody so we brought her in the house until we could make separate accommodations for her. She run all over the house quacking real loud, and my fiance said that's a locating call. So he went outside and found 2 that were similar to her, and we did some googling and found out we had 3 khaki Campbell's. 2 Drake's, 1 little tiny fiestiest thing I'd ever seen 😆😍. Then after more googling and asking friends, we found out we had 3 muscovy hens and 1 muscovy Drake, and another unknown hen(found out much later she is a blue swedish). We ended up with a variety of chickens. A banty rooster, a feather footed rooster, 2 dominiquers, 2 rir, a big feather footed hen, 2 black hens, and I don't even know what else. A few have got killed, or disappeared, or got sick and we had to put down. Until yesterday, we've only lost one duck (muscovy hen) and we know a snake got her. It tried to swallow her and couldn't. 😭😭😭 We had one khaki Drake and his girlfriend the female Pekin disappear in the last couple days.😭😭😭 We just had a muscovy hen to hatch out 9 babies 😲 she doubled our duck population all by herself. 🤷🏼‍♀️ And we've added 3 babies that were eggs from the blue swedish and a khaki Drake, ( they look and act like khakis), and a black Indian runner 😍. We have our hands full at the moment, but we love it. And we just added a gray chicken that I don't know the breed of. Hopefully y'all will get to know their names eventually, as it is too much to type right now, and hopefully I will get to send pics soon. I'm like a proud parent "u wanna see pics of my babies?" And unsuspecting humans don't know they r all feathery 😆 but I'm so excited to join this group where my feathery kids will be appreciated. 😊 I have loved and enjoyed every story and question I've read. Except the sad ones, and I was crying with y'all...I still have lots of questions, so y'all will hear from me regularly. Thank y'all for being here, and loving the feather babies! 😘😘😘
