HI my name is karen and I have followed and gotten advice from y'all for many a years. Have a 1-acre slice of paradise and want to do more with it as far as self sustainability!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I've had chickens off and on (mostly on) for the last 25 years
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have six sweet hens - and now two new bright shiny chicks
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have an americauna, a white leghorn, a french copper maran, a cuckoo maran, a cream legbar, and a rhode island red. The new babies - well I don't know because they are eggs donated from a friends coop! They sure are cute little ones, one black and one mostly but has some yellow on it's head. We shall see - if they are even hens or not!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Love seeing them about, adore how they waddle over when I cluck for them! Oh yea and of course fresh eggs
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love to read, have other sweet pets too, enjoy a good hike, and traveling.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My family likes to gripe about my girls (especially challenges of poop about with free range girls but I notice they eat the eggs happily! We have a happy pooch Enzo, two sweet cats and they all co-mingle!
I work as a school counselor by day, and for an airline at a small regional airport by evenings, early mornings and weekends for travel benefits!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
