So, I got this Barred Rock from my sister a few months ago. When she was about 8 weeks old my labrador mix had busted through the coop door and ran wild in the run. In an attempt to escape my BR tried to go under the fence where she only got stuck and he was able to get her. I had no idea any of this was happening until I happened to look out the window to see my dog inside the run, all chickens on one side with him on the other side gnawing on the back end of this little chicken. My heart sank. I ran outside screaming for him to leave it. He did leave it and ran back in the house, fearing for his life at this point. Anyways, I carefully pulled her out from under the fence and rushed her in the house where I filled the bathroom sink with warm water. I sat her in the water to see if any blood would wash away from under her feathers where I couldn't see any damage. She had her beak open and was breathing heavy. She was so stressed out. Can you believe there was no wounds, no blood, no nothing!!! I kept her in the house that night and for the following few days. I was certain she wouldn't make the night for there must have been some kind of internal damage. At the time I was integrating her and 3 others into an existing flock. That alone can be stressful for a new chicken. Anyway, here she is. So beautiful and happy to be alive. I named her Lucky Penny. Because she is exactly that... Lucky.

Omg.. right!! People at work think I'm nuts. But they just don't understand. Lolol.
No! They do not!! It’s so funny how some people just have this love for and connection with them and other people do not .. I guess it’s the same difference as “dog people” and “cat people”.... we are “chicken people” and proud of it! :D

I was terrified as i was reading that the outcome was going to be very bad. I am so happpy for you that it worked out. I once had a hen simply named Lucky because she avoided the axe man. She was a great hen and lived a long time. I hope that you get to enjoy the same from your Lukcy girl.
