I have a 8-10 week old hen who started limping about a week ago. We kept an eye on her and I wanted to give her a rest, so I separated her from the other 11 chickens and rested her leg for about 4 days. I went to here today, as I wanted to re-introduce her and give her some exercise, and I noticed a lump near her eye. I didn't think much of it, and I put her in the coop this morning with the other chickens.

When I came home today, she was out with the others, but the lump was bleeding. I took her back into isolation, cleaned up the area, and put neosporen on the area. I'm thinking that the other hens pecked at her, but I don't know. the first 2 pictures below are of before I cleaned it up and the last one is after I cleaned up a bit of the blood, and put the cream on. She didn't seem to mind the clean up or the cream.

It is hard to tell if the lump is is hard or soft given the cut.

Kinda related, but not sure - I had another chick who was limping a few weeks ago, I brought her to the vet, and after a lot of $$$$'s they gave me a general antibiotic, Bactrin, and that seemed to do the trick, as she is back with the flock and doing well. I bring this up only because this one started with a limp, but I didn't bring her to the vet.

any thoughts? help? can I get a general antibiotic without going to a vet? I gave the other on Bactrin in liquid form 2x a day.
