Lump on chickens back

My chicken who is like a dog to me has a black lump that started off the size of a quarter now the size of a golf ball. We took her to the vet she is almost done with it. The vet wants over $1000k to take it off. Any ideas! Will it keep getting bigger? Part of it is bleeding now. Thank you all so much.

What are you doing to treat it? Keeping it clean with saline or betadine, maybe even clipping the feathers away from it, and then slathering triple antibiotic ointment on it would help. Is this your only chicken?

What part of the back is it on? Hard to tell in the pictures. Is it down near the tale or near the shoulders? Do you or the vet think it is a tumor, or was it pecked and became abscessed? Feather cysts can be common if a feather is ingrown. How are you treating it so far?

I would soak it with warm water and look at what's really going on. Is it a parasite? Is it a cancer? Is it a fungus? There are many possible diagnosis' , as there are treatments, you need to know what you're dealing "with" to answer your questions.
