MA breeders list

Hi all,
New member here from MA. Here to learn and locate breeders near me.

Welcome! Fellow Taxachusetts resident here. North/Central Mass, near the New Hampshire border.

First time chicken owner myself. This is definitely a great place to learn. I've learned a lot here. And still learning!

I have 14 pullets/young hens (10 different breeds), and 1 cockerel/young rooster. I'll list breeds below.

They were all ordered from Meyers Hatchery. They hatched on August 28. They just turned 22 weeks yesterday. And we just got our very 1st egg this past Thursday, I'm thinking from one of our Black Copper Marans.

I plan on hatching some out when they all start laying normal size eggs. So if you're interested and in the area, I can help you out with hatching eggs, baby chicks, or pullets, in the future.

For hens I have:
1x Blue (BBS) Ameraucana
1x Buff Orpington
1x Cream Legbar
1x Rhode Island Red
1x Black Jersey Giant
1x Frizzled Easter Egger
2x Fibro Easter Eggers
2x Black Copper Marans
2x Buff Brahmas
2x Cookies & Cream
And my rooster is a Blue (BBS) Ameraucana.

* (BBS) = Blue/Black/Splash. Offspring can be any of the 3 colors, depending on parents colors being bred.

For instance, if I hatch out eggs from my
Blue (BBS) Ameraucana hen and rooster. The offspring with be 50% Blue, 25% Black, 25% Splash. But different combinations will give you different percentages.

I'll get Olive Eggers from breeding my Black Copper Marans, with my rooster. And Easter Eggers from breeding the rest of the breeds I have. Granted he mates with all of them, TBD.

Sounds like you have a nice flock going! Thank you so much, I learned a few things from your post. Thank you for your thoughtful description of some of the terminology in raising chickens. We're still in the research phase here and have much to learn. Keep us posted on your flocks progress!

Here is a list of hatcheries in Massachusetts. I have not used any of them. I also do not know any breeders in the state. But you might find out by checking out 4-H and county fair exhibitors. Like the Topsfield Fair and Marshfield Fair both have livestock shows, are 2 well known ones. Here is a list and link from the state about Agricultural and 4-H fairs.
Thank you! 😊
