I read and watched a bunch. So many channels on youtube about first timers acting like this is what you should do...

So we had two white broad breasted that were hand raised with some guineas and a few chickens. There whole life one was male one was female. I could never tell. No spur, no extra wattle they looked identical. Turns out they were both female. One was just more vocal than the other.

We let them go PAST time because of a few things. My 19 yr old son picked them out and was too attached. Local farmer said they could go longer...

Cant buy a freezer right now, because DAMN. The damn globalization economy.

Had a prolapse and weak ankle and had to take them both tonight.

My wife is so awesome. I was prepared for this. She was not, and carried through like a trooper. In fact after telling her what to expect, like how to avoid the oil gland and crop.
We did not starve our turkeys today. our crops were completely full and easily removed without breaking them. really Because of her. When it came to the other end, she gave me guidance on how to remove everything without hurting anything.

We had culled two roo's before. We moved to a cone and knife this time. with buckets to contain everything.

3 1/2 hours for homesteady to do one turkey. We did two in 2 1/2 hours. And did not use a torch to burn off short feathers at the end. Because of my wife.

So proud.

Did not weigh yet.

Gonna recruit pro help to do the Muscovy flock.

All i can say is... becoming self reliant is important. We aren't there yet... and my god is it spendy. But my wifeys instincts in this matter were on point.
