I'm interested in making some jerky, but don't really want to buy another gadget (dehydrator) in which to do it. How long does it take in the oven and at what temp? Any other advice? Thanks!

Try searching here on BYC for venison jerky recipes. We had a few posted a while back that were yummy! I do my venison jerky in the oven and it takes about 4-6 hours depending on the thickness of the meat.

I have a dehydrator but always use my oven for jerky. It is easy to make. You can marinade it or season it with pretty much whatever blend you want. If the meat is partially frozen it is easier to cut it thin if you like it that way. The hardest part about making it is having some left by the next day no matter how much you make. I just use old baking sheet, nothing fancy.

I've made jerky in my oven a few different ways. 225 for 2 hours or 185 for 6, depending on the thickness of the meat you are drying.

I have jerky trays but cookie cooling trays would work fine. It's best to have them on a rack. You can use a cookie sheet but it would increase the cook time.
