I had "expected" the chicks to run to me when I change water or pick them up to pet them but they run away. the DOB 3-5 cuckoo maran did at first but same DOB ameruancana always ran from from reaching hand. the Salmon faverolle DOB 3-12 has started squeaking when I reach in now too. What is the best way to show them to enjoy being held and petted; it seems like the ameruacana are the 'freaked out" and now the others decided that is the right way. THIS IS All so new to me and I look forward to these gals becoming pets

My chickens in general don't like to be "pet". Some won't mind being held, but ALL of them, even the most shy ones, LOVE IT when they can just preen me or sit on me in any way. If you just set your hand in there and do nothing, they'll eventually come check you out...especially if you have finger nail polish or a ring on!!! Treats, like mealworms or oats, are good way to get them running to you!

thanks perhaps my grabbing hand does look scary. . . they do settle when I pet them
