Hi All,

I posted in another thread that I have just begun feeding my 13 week old laying hens a homemade feed mix of wheat grass seed, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, peas, barley and oats (previously they had been on a starter and then broiler mix from Country Side Naturals). I am also sprouting these grains. They also free range all day and have plenty of access to lots of greens, plus veggie/fruit scraps. I also plan on feeding red worms, but they are not ready yet, so maybe will try to collect bugs or use meal worms as an extra source of animal protein.

I am wondering if people have successfully fed their young chickens with homemade mixes at this young of an age? I am running out of starter mix for my latest additions, too, who are about 4 weeks old and had planned on giving them the same mix above.

I am just trying to make this as natural as possible, but I want to make sure they are getting what they need so anyone who has also done this with success, I would love to hear from you!

Thanks!
Lisa
